The Young Enterprise Grampian Awards 2010

The inaugural Young Enterprise Grampian Awards, held in 2008, were an overwhelming success for both Young Enterprise and for organiser’s cushydoos. Its success paved the way for the event in 2009 and we are now, unbelievably, looking towards 2010!

Without the fantastic interest in the event and support from the local business community the Awards would never have happened. In 2008 we  were delighted to welcome special guest judge and after dinner speaker Mr Doug Richard of BBC’s hit entrepreneurial series ‘Dragons’ Den’ and in 2009, fellow ex-Dragon Richard Farleigh.

The true stars of the evening are of course the students who are there to celebrate the culmination of a year of hard-work and challenges, the likes of which they will have never experienced before.

Since the awards were launched in 2008 student uptake in the scheme has more than doubled with the 2009/2010 intake having the most student companies entering yet. This is true testament to the excitement and buzz that has been created by the awards event. The students have a reinforced sense of purpose and pride that the ‘real’ business community are interested in their entrepreneurial spirit and are making a bit of a ‘song and dance’ about their achievements!

The awards dinner, as well as being attended by the six finalist student companies, is also attended by members of the Grampian Business Community, across all industries. Following on from the fantastic success of the inaugural Young Enterprise Grampian Awards 2008, and the excellent event held in May 2009, this years awards will take place on Tuesday 27th April 2010 at the Marcliffe Hotel, Aberdeen.

We will be joined by top young business entrepreneur, founder of Innocent Smoothies, Richard Reed.

 Richard Reed, Innocent Drinks

A young entrepreneur himself Richard is the co-founder of innocent drinks, the number one smoothie brand in the UK. From humble beginnings in May 1999, making smoothies in a friend’s kitchen, they turned over £100m in 2007, and are now selling over two million smoothies a week in the UK and Europe.

We are very exited to hear about Richards journey, his experiences and how he has build up innocent drinks from nothing, to what is today, in just 10 years, while maintaining strong ethics, keeping the environment at the heart of business and being one of the most fun and quirky brands around.
