Secondary

It is widely recognized that creativity, innovation, and the ability to manage change are essential competencies for today’s students – who live in, and are preparing to enter the workplace in, a world of rapid and accelerating change. Young Enterprise Scotland programmes work with schools and students to give them learning styles and business skills to understand their options.

YES Programmes align with the Curriculum for Excellence, for more information http://www.ltscotland.org.uk/understandingthecurriculum/

Stairway to Success

Stairway to Success is designed to be delivered by a teacher with regular support from a YES facilitator. The programme is run flexibly, with the sessions usually comprising slots of 60 to 120 minutes. S2S comprises a complete programme, taking young people from the initial stages of thinking about a business through to completion of a robust business plan and the actual day-to-day running of their chosen business.

Destination Imagination

(DI) is an exhilarating activity in which students work in teams to solve mind-bending Challenges and present their solutions at Tournaments. Teams are tested to think on their feet, work together and devise original solutions that satisfy the requirements of the Challenges. Participants gain more than just basic knowledge and skills—they learn to unleash their imaginations and take unique approaches to problem solving.

Young Enterprise Scotland offers this volunteer led programme in Scotland as part of the worldwide DI programme, which reaches more than 100,000 young people across 30 countries.

Empower

Empower was designed as a result research into what employers need which  found their biggest concerns were that youth lacked 21st-century skills that will make them competitive in the job market. It is a comprehensive learning tool (12 modules, 32 hours face to face delivery with a further 8 hours of self-directed activities) designed to encompass all the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the diverse needs of an ever changing and challenging employment marketplace.

An additional 8 modules are available, which can be delivered separately or interchanged with the core modules.

The Company Programme

The Company Programme involves students in S5 & S6 setting up and running their own company in school over the course of one academic year.  They elect a board of directors from amongst their peers, raise share capital and market and finance a product or service of their own choice, in doing so learning about all aspects of business such as market research, finance, sales, production or service provision, customer service and HR.  This programme is supported by a volunteer Business Advisor who mentors students through the year at regular company meetings.
