Welcome to Young Enterprise Grampian. Our aim, in partnership with Young Enterprise Scotland, is to promote enterprise and entrepreneurship amongst young people in the North East of Scotland. To do this we work with a wide range of individuals and organisations from across the public, private, academic and not-for-profit sectors, and most importantly the young people from our Schools.
Our flagship event, each year, is the Company Programme, under which school students (young people typically in 5th and 6th year) form and operate a small company. The young people do everything from setting up the company through to marketing and selling their products and services. This involves them devising products, raising capital, producing the product, marketing, keeping accounts and finding customers. At the end of the Programme they present a final report, and if shortlisted, face a judging panel with the best companies in Grampian going forward to the national finals. A tough, but fun challenge which has seen the number of participating schools growing year on year.
To top it all off we believe in celebrating success and this year we will hold our awards dinner at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on the 5th of May where we expect to play host to businesses and organisations from across the north east; with the sale of the tables helping fund next years programme.
Over the course of the year we support the young people across Grampian by:
· organising business training to introduce the students to all aspects of company operation;
· providing each company with a Business Adviser – a volunteer from the local business community who advises the students on all aspects of their company operation (whilst carefully avoiding actually doing the work themselves!); and
· covering all the main costs associated with the programme.
To make all of this happen we rely on a wide network of individuals and organisations; many of whom give their time freely. In addition, we are fortunate that our local companies - large and small - recognise the value and importance of developing the entrepreneurial spirit in our young people. Without their support and sponsorship there would be no programme. So thank you! Whether you are young person looking to get involved, a school wishing to find out what is happening or an individual or an organisation looking for an exciting initiative to support we would love to hear from you.
