It was 'Happy Dayz' (sorry!) for YES's latest company at the beginning of September. Young people on YES's Positive Destinations 'Maximise' programme set up and ran Dayz, a company which sold cups, cards and other stationery items. The group sold their products at a gala in Maryhill and made a fantastic profit. Each member received a certificate to recognise his/her achievement at a special evening at Queens Cross Housing, YES's partners in the programme.
The group began the 13-week programme on 1 June 2009 and all 6 young people who completed it have a "positive destination" in that they are all moving forward to employment, education or training. The presentation was attended by representatives from Queens Cross Housing, Barnardos 16+ and YES. Managing Director of Dayz, Alberto, said: "There should be more of this programme. It shows young people that you can do it." Before the programme, Alberto thought business was "just about buying and selling" but the programme, delivered by Michael Traynor of YES, taught him the value of "ABC - Acknowledgement, Belief and Commitment". Alberto said: "We have learned a lot and it has been a really valuable experience. We would like to thank Queens Cross Housing, Barnardos 16+ and YES for their input." Nichola Shearer, Positive Destinations Manager, said: "the young people today have really achieved something". After winding down last week the members of Dayz decided to donate their remaining stock to charity and after sharing the profits, each partner got an amount more than 50% of the original business loan! YES wishes the young people every success with their future plans. You can see more pictures of Dayz and their presentation event here. |
